FEBRUARY – Emotional Entrances & Story Dance

Dear Parents,

During our February dance classes, we are performing Wingman for Dance activities that inspire empathy by storytelling through dance and movement. Being a compassionate and understanding dancer is an important part of enjoying a successful dance community. We hope your dancers are willing to share with you the dances they have created and expressed during the activities “Emotional Entrances” and “Story Dance”.

This month through to April we will begin collecting nominations for Wingman awards, representing actions that go above and beyond for others. Everyone connected with the studio can make a nomination. The nomination forms we are using can be obtained at the front office. We will consider these acts for awards that will be made during a special celebration in April.

How you can help: Being able to identify and understand emotions in others and in ourselves helps create self-awareness. Being able to discuss emotions and listen intently to others inspires empathy. Having open family discussions about emotions, specifically the difficult ones – loneliness, sadness, anger, fear, frustration or confusion – builds a stronger, more compassionate family and community.

Please continue discussions with your dancer about ideas for community service activities for April. We will begin to collect their ideas during March.

Don’t hesitate to contact me or one of the other instructors if you want more information about the Wingman program or have any questions.

Thank you,
Miss Katie & DIDC

Wingman for Dance is a program from Dylan’s Wings of Change, a foundation dedicated to the memory of Dylan Hockley, one of the first grade victims of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012. Dylan was six years old and had autism, and could be his best when those around him would be his Wingman. You can find out more at www.wingmanleague.org. Also, find us on Facebook (Wingman For Dance) and on Instagram @wingman4dance.
